North America - Spanning some 25.3 million square kilometers, North America is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Pacific Ocean on the west. The climate is temperate in the north and tropical in the south.
Resulting from a collision between the American and Pacific plates, the cordillera runs from Alaska right up to Central America. The mountains that form this chain peak at 4000 meters and comprise the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada.
North America has more than 300 million inhabitants who enjoy a high standard of living; 76% of the population is concentrated within cities.
