Maps of the world

The world was divided into large regions whose creation began with the denominating and defining of the continents.

Quite often, this was done from a European point of view.

Some names were derived from ancient Greece, which had separated the lands to the east of Asia from those to the west of it.

Asia, for example, comprises several zones, each of whose characteristics justify its regional status.

Generally, a region is a part of the world that is distinguished by one or more characteristics, be they geological, climatic, geographical, cultural or economic.
